Morning Routine

One of the things I find the most challenging in winter is keeping my skin hydrated. With the combination of dry cold weather outside, indoor heating, constant temperature changes and the effects of chlorine on my skin from early morning swim sessions, my skin really takes a battering! After lots of product trialling I have found a way to keep my skin feeling hydrated and nourished!!

On the mornings when I am swimming I will always splash my face with warm water and apply Zoe Organics Everything Balm to my lips. Sometimes if my skin is feeling dry I will also use a small amount of S.W Basics Cream to my face. The chlorine in the pool water seriously dries out my skin, so I feel like I am creating a bit of a barrier to protect my skin before I start swimming. I will also do the same thing on the days I exercise outside in the winter elements.

Following exercise I will shower and wash my face with Skinnyskinny‘s The Cleanser. This product is amazing. It is oil based, hydrating, very gentle and good for all skin types. This cleanser makes my skin start to feel nourished again rather than dried out and tight like a lot of other cleansers.

While still in the shower, I lather up in the Max Green Alchemy (MGA) Shower Gelee this products is so refreshing and fills the bathroom with lovely gingery smells.

Then I lightly buff my face and décolletage with a Kuu Konjac Bamboo Charcoal Sponge. The Sponge helps to balance the PH of my skin and gently exfoliates any dry old skin.

When it comes to shampoo and conditioner I use Acure shampoo and conditioner. They feel just like using conventional products but contain no nasty chemicals and are gentle on my scalp and hair, great for someone like me who washes pretty much daily.

Out of the shower I apply a combination of MGA Naked Rescue Cream and Skinnyskinny’s Chamomile Organic Body Oil all over. Oils in particular absorb best when you apply them straight after a shower, when you are still a little damp. I love how quickly both these products are absorbed into my skin and they don’t leave me feeling sticky.

I then reach for the luxurious Skincando Miracle Cream and massage it over my face and neck. This product is divine, it makes my skin feel loved, velvety and plump.

For deodorant I use Soapwalla’s Deodorant Cream.

Lastly I use the Kosmea Sunscreen SPF 30+. I use this every day, even in winter. One of the best things you can do to look after your skin and reduce the effects of aging is to use a sunscreen- everyday! Kosmea is great because it is lightly tinted so it acts as a light foundation, which on some days is all I need.

Make up Routine

My choice of foundation is the Studio 78 Paris Bi Phased Water Foundation. It blends into my fair skin really well and is light in coverage. I find I don’t have to cover my whole face and I can just touch up the bits that need a bit of help. If I need more coverage I apply Studio 78 Paris Mattifying Powder with the Studio Kabuki Brush over the top of the Bi Phased Foundation.

Once I have applied my foundation I will apply blush. I love blush, always have, it would be one of my essential make up products, I don’t think I ever leave the house without a quick brush of colour. At the moment I rotate between the Studio 78 Paris colours. Right now I have on colour 01- “On the Beach”.

It is very unusual for me not to wear nail polish, even if it is just a nude colour, so I love the 5 free Priti NYC nail polishes. Different colours for different seasons, easy to apply and really easy to touch up without having to take it off and start again! Painting my nails is a common form of procrastination for me.

Occasionally I am bad and wear a bright pink lipstick full of nasty chemicals, but only on special occasions. I love this particular colour and haven’t been able to find a toxic free substitute yet. My motto is to use toxic free everyday products, particularly the ones that sit all day and often all night on your skin, but it is not worth beating yourself up about using a chemical laden product i.e. a lipstick every so often.

Let me know if you have any toxic free bright lippy suggestions..... I will be shouting it out to the world when I find the perfect substitute!!

Evening Routine

My evening routine is pretty quick and easy, by this time of day I just don’t have the energy for a complex skincare routine. Sleep is way more important!!

If I have been wearing makeup I use S.W Basics Makeup Remover, so gentle and actually moisturisers my skin as I remove the dirt from the day.

Once a week I use the Prada Lab Dark Chocolate Clay Collagen Facial Mask. I mix it up with either water or diluted apple cider vinegar, apply it and then leave it for 15 mins to dry before washing off. I then use the Prada Lab Velvet Skin Almond Hydrating Facial Scrub to exfoliate my skin. I use the scrub a lot more in winter to keep the flaky skin at bay.

After a mask and a scrub I then cleanse. As per my morning routine I once again cleanse with the amazing skinnyskinny The Cleanser. If my skin is dry and needs some extra love I use a few drops from a little bottle of golden oil, MGA’s Elemeni Oil (I use the one for oily skin). This stuff is worth its weight in gold and a little goes a long way. Pure concentrated essential oils, my skin laps it up.

I always finish my evening skin routine with a generous amount of Miracle Cream. Your skin does most of its repairing and rejuvenating overnight so it is important to use great stuff on your skin before bed time.
